Een paar jaar geleden werd ik geattendeerd op het boek “Positively 4th Street” van David Haidu. Een aanrader voor wie meer wil weten over de periode in de jaren 60 toen de levens van Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Richard Farina en Mimi Baez-Farina elkaar kruisten.
Ik ging weer naar de muziek van Mimi & Richard Farina luisteren en kwam
Children of Darkness tegen. Dat hadden wij vroeger ook gespeeld. In mijn archief zag ik het nummer staan op een set lijstje van de eerste bezetting van Fungus uit begin 1972. Het werd gezongen door Sheila Out, die korte tijd in de groep heeft gezeten.
Later vond ik nog een nummer, geschreven door Richard Farina, dat ik erg mooi vond “A Swallow Song” dat net als “Children of Darkness” op de LP “Reflections in a Crystal Wind” van Mimi and Richard Farina staat.
Deze twee songs pasten prachtig in de collectie die Rens van der Zalm en ik in studio Teclats van Ton Snijders aan het opnemen waren en nu ook op CD zijn verschenen.
